George A Costa died on June 17 in Naples, Fla. He was born in Vineyard Haven on March 29, 1921, to John and Margaret Costa. He served in the army during World War II in North Africa and Italy. When he returned to the Vineyard after the war, he met and married Lena, a school teacher. He worked in the post office for 30 years. He spent time on the planning and zoning boards in Vineyard Haven. He was also a past commander of the American Legion.

While on the Island, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a very talented carpenter.

Upon retirement, George and Lena spent winters in Florida. Eventually they moved there year-round, where they enjoyed golfing and working with stained glass.

He is survived by his daughter, Lorna Dreher, and her husband, Craig, of Hooksett, N.H.; his son John and his wife, Susan of West Tisbury; his granddaughter, Heidi Shea and her husband, Chris; and beautiful great-granddaughter Ella. He is also survived by his sister Louise and her husband, Robert Yapp; his brother Joseph and his wife, Vivian; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his loving wife, Lena, who died in 2001, he was predeceased by his sister Laura and her husband, Reggie Ivory.
