Nancy (Anne) Nagle, of Orienta Point, Mamaroneck, N.Y., and Edgartown, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Dec. 26 at Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, Conn.

Born and raised in western Massachusetts, she attended the Pine Cobble School in Williamstown. Married to her hometown sweetheart for over 50 years, she raised her family with her husband, Robert Flynn Nagle, an educational administrator in Mamaroneck. Nancy was a loving, vibrant, involved parent who delighted in her family and in her role as its matriarch. A reading specialist, Nancy was an integral conceptual and founding member of the Teacher-Mom Program in the Mamaroneck-Larchmont School System. The program paired “moms” with students in a tutorial setting to nurture every aspect of the child and their educational experience. Through her work at the Teacher-Mom Program, the Karrey Children’s Center, and her private tutoring she touched the lives of hundreds of children and their families, a lifelong source of immense fulfillment.

A member of the Women’s Club and a 35-year member of the Orienta Beach Club where she served as a vital and active member of the Ladies Auxiliary Committee, Nancy was a talented organizer and visionary. She had summered on the Vineyard since childhood, and the Island was most dear to her heart where she looked forward to glorious summer days spent with lifelong friends. A well-known and much-loved Islander, she often spent five months a year on the Vineyard, where she was involved with various local projects and pursuits.

Diagnosed with a curable form of lymphoma in November, Nancy had recently completed a cycle of chemotherapy at Cornell-Weill Medical Center.

She was predeceased five years ago by her husband of 52 years. She is survived by her children, Karrey-Lynn Nagle of Mamaroneck, N.Y., Erin Nagle of Rockport, Shaun Nagle of Mystic, Conn.; her grandchildren, Jeff, Brendan, Taylor, and Bronwynne; and her friends who were deeply beloved.

Services will be private. A memorial service to celebrate her life will take place in the summer of 2011 on the Vineyard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to your favorite charities for women and children. Saint Louis Companion Dog Charity, Smile Train, Heifer International, Kiva.org, and the Salvation Army were some of Nancy’s favorite charities.
