Nancy Brumley died on March 10 in Vineyard Haven of complications from dementia. She was 85.

Nancy was born Dec. 14, 1925 in Shaker Heights, Ohio, to Gladys and Robert Blair.

She married Corwin (Coke) Brumley on Sept. 18, 1948. After an extended sailing honeymoon, Nancy and Coke settled in the Rochester, N.Y., area and built a family summer cottage on Canandaigua Lake which is still enjoyed by their children and grandchildren. Corwin died in 1978.

Nancy graduated from Wellesley College in 1948. She was a homemaker who loved children and volunteered her time to teach them to read, to swim and to enjoy the outdoors. She competed successfully in both tennis and ice skating, including national honors in ice dancing.

Nancy moved to the Henrietta Brewer House in Vineyard Haven in 1998 to be near her sister, Sally Coker, and her brother, the Rev. William C. Blair, and his wife, Kits, a childhood friend of Nancy’s.

Survivors include Nancy’s sister, Sandra Blauvelt, of Larkspur, Calif., the youngest of seven siblings; Nancy’s daughter, Sally Keller, of Eugene, Ore.; sons, Blair Brumley, of La Jolla, Calif., and Dan Brumley, of Walworth, N..Y and Lorient, France; and grandchildren, Kinsey, Adrienne, Aziliz and Alexander.

A memorial service will be held later. Arrangements by Chapman, Cole and Gleason of Martha’s Vineyard. Remembrances to Finger Lakes Land Trust, Rochester Rotary Sunshine Camp, or a charity of your choice.
