Donald William Haberstroh, of Chatham Borough, N.J., and a longtime summer resident of Edgartown, died peacefully at his Chatham Borough home on March 1. He was 76.

Born in Newark, Mr. Haberstroh grew up in Maplewood, N.J. and was a 1953 graduate of Columbia High School. He then matriculated at Bucknell University and graduated in 1957 with a bachelor’s of science in chemical engineering. He later volunteered with the school of engineering and served on the board of development with the School of Engineering.

In 1958 he entered service with the U.S. Army and received his honorable discharge in 1960.

After marrying Priscilla Milnes in 1960, they resided briefly in Madison, N.J. and Indiana before moving to Chatham Borough in 1964. The family also enjoyed 39 summers in Edgartown, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there in 2010.

Mr. Haberstroh spent his entire professional career in the field of chemical and environmental engineering. He worked for several companies, retiring over 15 years ago from Lucent Technologies in Basking Ridge, N.J. He was also the retired vice president of marketing and project development with UV Technologies.

Mr. Haberstroh was very involved with his community. He was instrumental in starting the Senior Center of the Chathams and was on their board of directors, where he held emeritus status. He was a member of the Chatham United Methodist Church for over 45 years and served on many communities and capacities there, and was on the building committee of the Bristol Glen Methodist Homes in Newton, N.J. Mr. Haberstroh served on the board of the Passaic River Coalition for 25 years and also served on the environnmntal commission of the Chathams. He was very involved in the creation of Sheppard-Kollock Park in Chatham Borough. He also volunteered with the local Republican committee.

He was the beloved husband of Priscilla; loving father of David Haberstroh and his wife, Christy, of Oreland, Pa., and Beth-Ellen Leman and her husband, Andrew, of Los Altos, Calif.; devoted grandfather of Kylie and Fiona Haberstroh and Taylor Leman, and brother of Linda Hyle and her husband, Steve, and the late Howard Haberstroh. He is also survived by a niece, Lori, and a nephew, Kevin.

A memorial service was held at the Chatham United Methodist Church on March 17.
