Harold W. Cleveland, 83, of Tisbury and Boscawen, N.H., died at the Merrimack County Nursing Home on May 3, surrounded by his loving family.

Harold was born in Tisbury on June 13, 1928. He was the son of the late Llewellyn and Lydia (West) Cleveland. He was raised in Tisbury and educated in area schools. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1948 and served in Korea and Vietnam. He moved to New Hampshire in 1978 and began working for the Concord School District, eventually retiring and becoming a self-employed general repair contractor, specializing in carpentry and roofing.

He was an avid gardener and lifetime member of the Elks Club, VFW and NRA. He enjoyed fishing and hunting on the Cape but, as a family man, his greatest love was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making sure he left each of them with valuable life lessons.

Harold was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Frances (Hilton). He leaves behind six adult children, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a sister, and many extended family members all over the country.

A graveside committal service will be held Thursday, May 10, at 11 a.m. at the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Merrimack County Nursing Home Activities Fund, 325 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, N.H. 03303.
