John A. Ferreira of North Dartmouth died unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 3 at home, just six days after his retirement from Peter Pan Bus Lines. He was 65.

He was the cherished and beloved husband of Grace (Brizida) Ferreira.

Born in Bombarral, Portugal, the son of Alberto and Maria Fausta (Ramos) Ferreira, he lived most of his life in Dartmouth. He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Parish.

John worked as a bus operator for 30 years. He was a well-respected driver who loved his job and passengers. He was an avid blood donor who was very giving and caring person.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lisa King and her husband Alan of Dartmouth and Allison Ferreira Hemsen and her husband Robert of Nashville, Tenn.; two grandsons, Nathaniel Robert Hemsen and Samuel John Hemsen; two sisters, Filomena M. Nicolau and her husband Fred and Maria C. Duarte and her husband Abilio, all of North Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 9 at 9 a.m. at the Waring-Sullivan Funeral Home at 230 Russells Mills Road in Dartmouth, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Julie Billiart Parish, 494 Slocum Road in Dartmouth. A visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 8 from 4 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who are able to please visit their local blood bank and donate blood in John’s memory. A local blood drive in his honor will be announced at a later date.
