Thomas (Floggy) Rogers died peacefully at the Falmouth Hospital, on Friday, April 19, surrounded by his loving daughter, Whitney Anne Rogers of Edgartown and son, Thomas (Boise) Rogers of Edgartown. He was 83.

Tommy was a wonderful old-time Islander, born in Oak Bluffs on Dec. 31, 1935, the only son of Frank and Gertrude Rogers. He lived and worked on the Vineyard his entire life and also served in the U.S. Army, 3rd Armored Division in Fort Hood, Tex., as a tank driver. On the Vineyard, he worked in excavation and construction for the White Brothers and Goodale, and then his own company, Katama Construction, for 35 years.

Tommy loved fishing and hunting, especially the derby and enjoyed eating fresh bay scallops and quahaugs caught by his son, Boise. He built his custom boat, Excavator which he loved fishing on with family and friends. Also, he enjoyed all the great Western movies, namely, John Wayne and Clint Eastwood.

After living in Edgartown and Chappaquiddick for a combined total of 45 years, he retired to Aidylberg in Oak Bluffs where he lived for the past 10 years.

He is survived by his former wife, Michele J. Whitney, his daughter and son and his beloved Labrador, Daisy.

Services were held on April 29 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Otis Air Force Base, in Bourne.

There will be a future celebration of Tommy’s life at later date to be announced for family and friends.
