Thursday, October 27, 2016

In October birds begin migrating past Martha's Vineyard; some are summer resident species leaving for winter homes, while others nested north and west and are migrating down the Atlantic Coast. Meanwhile our avian winter residents start to arrive. Follow October bird news and sightings through the Gazette's Bird News column, and enjoy these pictures of October bird sightings.

short tailed hawk, Katana Beach across from the beach perched in a tree.
My mother, Janet Ingalls & I had a chance to witness this birds for quite a few minutes in various positions even though it's out of it's range - we are quite certain this is what we saw. VERY EXCITING - beautiful bird!
