Rise and shine, the summer solstice has arrived. But although an early start is a blessed thing, the throttle can remain low, more a purring than a roaring beast.

Saunter comes to mind as the perfect speed. Saunter to the backyard to watch the sun rise slowly over the treetops. Saunter to the large Tulip tree to watch two squirrels play tag. Saunter down the street, then turn left for no apparent reason. Whimsy is a good friend of sauntering, the two offering up surprises for those who play along.

After turning left, stop when you hear a gull cry, then saunter right and then left again. And don’t worry if anyone is watching and wondering what you are up to. Just smile and saunter away.
