A strong northeast storm whipped up high winds and heavy seas around the Vineyard for a second straight day on Thursday. The storm is expected to linger into Friday with gale-force winds and the potential for flooding and significant beach erosion.

Thank you, Gazette, for not bending to the use of the popular bastardization of the word northeaster. If it's quaint and New Englandy you're after, the word would be no'theastah, in keeping with the regional dropping of the r. No old salt would linger on the two Rs in the word nor'easter.
