American Art Exhibit at Tisbury School

Through the effort of the Tisbury School librarian, Patricia Ryan, and a grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities, the Tisbury School is showcasing an exhibition, Pictures of America, which documents the history of America through major American artists and their work.

The posters not only feature famous paintings, but sculptures, photography and craft works. The exhibition will be on display for the month of November in the passageway between the school and the library.

The North Water Gallery hosts photographer David Fokos for an artist talk on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. Now living in San Diego, Mr. Fokos is back on the Vineyard, where he is most well known for his square black and white photographs with long exposures, ranging from 20 seconds up to 30 minutes. These exposures filter out what Mr. Fokos calls visual noise to reveal the fundamental underlying forms of our world. All are welcome at the gallery on North Water street in Edgartown. Wendy Weldon Retrospective

Wendy Weldon Retrospective

A retrospective of paintings by Wendy Weldon will be on exhibit from Feb. 28 through April 4 at the Chilmark Public Library. There will be new work as well as older paintings, all of which have never been exhibited before on the Vineyard. Paintings from her Shrine series, her Bed and Lamp series and her Personal Memoirs series will be included in the show.

An artist’s reception will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 7 at the library. All are welcome.

Shaw Cramer Gallery Has Color and Whimsy

Shaw Cramer Gallery presents the spotlight show Color + Whimsy from July 31 through August 13. Island artists Karen DiMaura and Adele Schonbrun join seven national artists in a show filled with playful and colorful artwork. Handmade baskets, vintage bead jewelry, paintings and photography combine with painted wood and handbuilt clay sculptures to create this collection.

The show is in the upper gallery. Leslie Baker’s Landscape Paintings + Studies continues in the main gallery through August 6.
