American Art Exhibit at Tisbury School

Through the effort of the Tisbury School librarian, Patricia Ryan, and a grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities, the Tisbury School is showcasing an exhibition, Pictures of America, which documents the history of America through major American artists and their work.

The posters not only feature famous paintings, but sculptures, photography and craft works. The exhibition will be on display for the month of November in the passageway between the school and the library.

The North Water Gallery hosts photographer David Fokos for an artist talk on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. Now living in San Diego, Mr. Fokos is back on the Vineyard, where he is most well known for his square black and white photographs with long exposures, ranging from 20 seconds up to 30 minutes. These exposures filter out what Mr. Fokos calls visual noise to reveal the fundamental underlying forms of our world. All are welcome at the gallery on North Water street in Edgartown. The scene at PikNik’s Urban Show demonstrated the transience of the urban mindset, its ability to be transplanted even to a mostly rural Island.

Louisa Gould Gallery has been under renovated since a pipe burst of Jan. 2, but it will reopen tomorrow, Saturday, March 7, from noon to 5 p.m. And as a thank you to customers, Ms. Gould is offering a deal that if you purchase one of her photographs at full price you may take home a second piece of original art (of the same or lower price) for free.
