Gary A. Jenkins, an entertainment attorney who lived in Scarsdale, N.Y., died March 29 after contracting the virus. Mr. Jenkins had summered on the Vineyard for more than half a century.

Six Island health agents and public health nurses with Island Health Care are hard at work identifying and monitoring every confirmed case of Covid-19 on the Vineyard.

The latest confirmed case of Covid-19 is a man in his thirties, public health officials said Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases on the Island to 12. In related news, Cong. Bill Keating announced a $513,830 federal grant to Island Health Care.

Two more cases of Covid-19 were confirmed Saturday, bringing the total of confirmed cases on the Island to 12. No one with the virus is hospitalized at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital.

Amid rising numbers of confirmed cases of Covid-19, Gov. Charlie Baker extended a statewide stay-at-home order to May 4 Tuesday, and a ninth confirmed case was reported on Martha’s Vineyard.

The Martha’s Vineyard Hospital said Monday there are now eight confirmed cases of Covid-19 on the Island, five more than as of Saturday. And public officials said construction bans on both Islands will remain in place, following a Sunday conference call with spokesmen for Governor Baker.

The Steamship Authority on Sunday released statistics showing a modest increase in out-of-state vehicles coming to the Vineyard in the first half of March, as Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker urged residents with second homes on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard to stay home.

Leaders at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital said Wednesday morning they expect to see the first positive case of Covid-19 on the Island within a matter of days.
