Records for the project at the Triangle show a pattern of mistakes and faulty construction since work began this winter. The building was closed abruptly on April 1 due to water damage.
With the roof removed and construction underway on new apartments above the Edgartown Post Office, rainfall has led to two closures of the town post office in the last week.
The Edgartown planning board has closed a public hearing but has yet to vote on whether to approve plans for eight loft apartments in the busy B-2 business district off Upper Main street. Residents of the Dark Woods neighborhood are up in arms over the plan.
Many of us remain extremely concerned about the proposed Edgartown Lofts apartments at the already congested Triangle area, for reasons of both safety and sanity. We all know that housing is a serious issue on the Vineyard; many of us have done the frustrating Vineyard shuffle ourselves. And we all (try to) drive through that chaotic intersection, as do our visitors. We need more planning from our planning boards and fewer knee-jerk reactions. We all need to make efforts to maintain and support the quality of life we, residents and visitors alike, love.
Sparks flew over a planned loft apartment complex at the Triangle during a crowded hearing before the Edgartown planning board. Charles Hajjar wants to build eight apartments on the second floor of two adjacent buildings at Post Office Square. Traffic and parking are concerns.
A development project that will prove highly disruptive, and dangerous, to traffic flows in and around the Edgartown Triangle is moving forward with little notice and even less outrage.
Recently I became aware of an application by Haven Road Realty Trust (Charles Hajjar) for a special permit to construct 10 apartments (total 20 bedrooms) as a second floor to two buildings in Post Office Square in Edgartown.
