Oak Bluffs selectmen passed over long-serving board member Gail Barmakian for reappointment to the Martha’s Vineyard Commission Tuesday, voting instead to appoint selectman Brian Packish.

A mainstay Martha’s Vineyard nightspot year round, the Ritz Cafe will shutter effective Jan. 1, with plans to reopen March 9, following approval from the Oak Bluffs selectmen Tuesday.

Two downtown restaurants in Oak Bluffs won approval from the Oak Bluffs selectmen this week to make changes for the winter, with one closing until spring and another adopting shortened hours of operation until January.
