A police search remains ongoing for a suspect in the murder of Pat Gregory on a remote hiking trail in northern California more than five years ago.

The family of the late Pat Gregory completed purchase of the building in a $1.4 million transaction late last month. The sale insures that Edu Comp, the office supply and computer store founded by Mr. Gregory, will remain in the brick building at the head of Main street.

The search for Pat Gregory’s killer has yielded no firm leads or suspects, authorities said, but they expressed confidence their investigation will ultimately result in an arrest.

For all the public displays of respect and affection, there have been many more private remembrances and even acts of kindness done in the name of F. Patrick (Pat) Gregory, since the news of his death raced across the Island one year ago.

F. Patrick Gregory will be remembered for his kindness and gentle spirit, his passion and generosity. He was a man of uncommon decency.

Those were a few of the words used to describe Mr. Gregory at the West Tisbury Agricultural Hall Wednesday afternoon.

Throughout the weekend the Vineyard mourned the loss of the longtime West Tisbury moderator and well-known Islander, who was the victim of a robbery and homicide on a remote hiking trail in northern California Friday. Mr. Gregory was 69.
