Tisbury residents voted in favor of borrowing $4.8 million to overhaul and expand the Vineyard Haven Public Library at a special town meeting that lasted more than three hours Tuesday.
The library’s elected board of trustees is asking Tisbury voters to approve a Proposition 2 1/2 override for up to $8.8 million in borrowing for the project, which includes building an addition for which the trustees are raising private donations.
Years after it became the Island’s first state-designated cultural district, the Vineyard Haven Harbor Cultural District is relaunching as a newly-minted nonprofit led by artists working in the town.
