Thomas Murphy eked out a win in a tight Aquinnah select board race Thursday, defeating challenger Jannette Vanderhoop 129-115.

Aquinnah voters will decide a two-way select board race at next week’s annual town election. Incumbent Thomas Murphy faces challenger Jannette Vanderhoop.

Before about 20 people at the Aquinnah town hall, incumbent Thomas Murphy and challenger Jannette Vanderhoop answered voter queries, weighed in on their experience and explained their vision for the town.

Jannette Vanderhoop is running against sitting select board chair Tom Murphy at the May 16 town election.

Voters flocked to the polls for the Aquinnah town election Thursday, approving the housing bank question by a large margin.

Aquinnah voters go to the polls today to cast ballots in the annual town election — including a final vote on the housing bank and deciding a race for the board of health. Polls are open from noon to 8 p.m. in the old town hall.

Aquinnah voters returned Juli Vanderhoop to office as a selectmen for the next three years at the annual town election Wednesday.
