For nearly a century, the Holy Ghost Society has hosted a feast and a parade in Oak Bluffs. This year’s festivities take place once again at the Portuguese American Club, with the feast on Saturday and the parade Sunday.
John Stanwood performs regularly at the Portuguese American Club, in particular as one half of the music duo Rosie (Guerin) and John. Recently, he took on a new role: he helped design a stage for the club.
Before the Portuguese American Club was formed, before its cozy bar in suburban Oak Bluffs was built, there was just the Holy Ghost Society and a parade.
At a grand opening Saturday afternoon, leaders at the food pantry and Island Grown Initiative gave tours of the new facility at the Portuguese American Club in Oak Bluffs.
