The hurricane is projected to pass to the east of the Vineyard and Nantucket Saturday, bringing strong winds and high surf.
With Hurricane Lee expected to pass offshore of Martha’s Vineyard Saturday, the National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning for Dukes County. The storm could hit the Island with tropical storm-force winds within the next 36 hours.
The watch goes into effect at 2 p.m. today and will remain active until Friday morning, with areas of the state expected to receive between two and four inches of rain.
A short deep freeze hit the Island Saturday, part of the arctic blast that caused freezing temperatures across the northeast.
Temperatures may reach as low as zero degrees Saturday and winds may reach up to 45 miles per hour.
