At the end of June, Featherstone celebrated the art of the Barnes family, an amazingly talented family with deep roots in East Chop. Tokey’s political cartoons, first published by the Boston Globe, along with several of his humorous oils were prominently displayed. Tokey’s paintings are found in houses all over the Chop. He still makes us laugh.

Saturday afternoon at the tennis club (5:30 to 7 p.m.), East Chop will celebrate the life of Jeff Riotte. There is no better life to honor and remember. As a kid Jeff wowed us with his ability on the tennis courts and at the piano. As an adult, we appreciated most his smile, sense of humor, and artistry with the harmonica.

Isabel Geraldine Washington Powell (5/23/1908 – 5/1/2007) of Oak Bluffs would have been 99 years old had she lived until her birthday the year she died. Much has been written about her husband Adam Clayton Powell Jr. whom she loved and to whom she was married from 1933 until they divorced in 1945.

The Oak Bluffs Land and Wharf Company reached its demise following a period of national economic malaise and the Vineyard Grove Company was able to buy its remnants at pennies on the dollar. Literally.
