The Island Alpaca Company is introducing a new Sunday morning program called Island Alpaca Junior Discovery, wherein children ages 8 to 18 can learn all about this most noble creature. Participants will find out all where the alpaca come from and why they are important to humans. Educational opportunities include hands-on activities, such as barn chores, alpaca feeding and care, halter training, and possibly, a chance to witness the birth of a new herd member.

The program is held at the farm, located at 1 Head of the Pond Road in Oak Bluffs, from 9 to 11 a.m. every Sunday throughout the summer. Children should bring sturdy, comfortable shoes or boots on wet or muddy days, as well as indoor shoes to change into, rain gear if necessary, and light gloves.

Cost is $20, and pre-registration is required. Payments can be made by telephone or at the farm store, open noon to 4 p.m. daily. All registrations are on a first come, first served basis. This program is expected to be very popular.
