A new exhibition of paintings by Harry Seymour opens at Carol Craven Gallery with a reception for the artist on Sunday, August 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. and the public is welcome.

This will be Mr. Seymour’s second exhibition at the gallery, and he will present his most recent works of egg tempera paintings and scratchart etchings. He draws his inspiration from the beauty of the Vineyard as well as its richly diverse multicultural community.

It is precisely the Vineyard’s mixture of place with varied people that creates the beautiful hues that energize and give vibrancy to his artistic vision and purpose. This vision is expressed through the medium of egg tempera, which gives a beautiful tonal, illuminating quality to the paintings, in contrast to the scratchart etchings, which have bold contrasts of light and dark.

The subject matter of his paintings is of children at play on the beach, calming images of water, boats and a majestic lighthouse.

Carol Craven Gallery is located at 497 State Road near the West Tisbury Post Office, and is open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5.pm. For more information, call 508-693-3535.
