OZZIE FISCHER MEMORIES

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

The following are comments from the Gazette Web site on the obituary for Albert O. (Ozzie) Fischer Jr.

Mr. Fischer’s spirit will always flow throughout the Vineyard, without doubt. Through his hard work over his entire life, his graceful touch is indelible.

Ozzie’s wisdom, hard work, friendship and humor have been near-daily gifts to four generations of our family. His loss is keenly felt, and our hearts go out to his family and all who knew this completely amazing man.

One of my earliest memories of the Vineyard is going to get eggs from Ozzie. We’ll miss him dearly.

CELL PHONE RECOVERY

Editors, Vineyard Gazette:

I want to publicly thank the Steamship Authority for their willingness to go out of their way to help all folks making their way to the Vineyard. I left my cell phone on a Peter Pan bus en route to visit family here from New York. The Bourne-Falmouth driver, Gil, contacted the previous driver on the Providence-Hyannis route where I’d left my phone. That driver kindly recovered my phone and guarded it safely in his home in Boston overnight. The next day he passed it to the Boston-Woods Hole driver, John, who knew enough ferry guys to pass one of them an envelope containing my cell phone. That Steamship employee carried it in his or her pocket over to Vineyard Haven, where it waited for me at the ticketing desk. I can’t be more grateful and wish I could thank the Steamship employees personally!
