The fall sitting of Dukes County superior court is scheduled to begin Monday.

The Hon. Richard J. Chin, an associate justice of the superior court, will preside over the session at the Edgartown courthouse.

A grand jury is expected to convene Monday. There are several criminal and civil matters on the docket. Criminal trials by jury are currently scheduled for Oct. 20 in the cases of Darryl B. Baptiste and Patrece L. Petersen.

The two men were indicted in April 2013 on charges stemming from an alleged assault at the Ritz Cafe in Oak Bluffs.

Mr. Petersen, 42, is charged with assault to murder, attempted murder and assault and battery, and Mr. Baptiste, 36, is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery.

According to police reports filed in court at the time, Mr. Baptiste allegedly bumped into the victim, causing the man to drop his drink. An argument later ensued during which Mr. Baptiste allegedly slashed at the victim with a razor and Mr. Petersen allegedly choked the victim and yelled that he was going to kill him. Police said the attacked man had abrasions and lacerations to his body and leather jacket.

The superior court convenes twice a year in Dukes County, usually in October and April.
