A Tisbury man who was arrested late last year for a spree of break-ins across the Island was sentenced Tuesday to two years at a house of corrections.

Eric. J. Johnson pleaded guilty to 16 various larceny and breaking and entering charges in Dukes County Superior Court. He was facing more than 91 charges in all in connection with the break-ins in the down-Island towns.

Mr. Johnson, 25, will be on probation for three years after his sentence, which he has already served 153 days.

Mr. Johnson was arrested in December after members of Tisbury, Oak Bluffs, Edgartown and West Tisbury police departments executed a search at his residence on Carroll’s Way.

At the time police had been investigating break-ins in cars, unlocked sheds and garages for weeks. Among the stolen items were money, a scooter, an antique tin and a bicycle, police said.

Police finally tracked Mr. Johnson down after he allegedly stole a bicycle that had a GPS tracker on it.

Mr. Johnson was also wanted in Rhode Island for similar thefts.
