It is May 9 and I just turned up the heat because my house was chilly. This goes against all my rules of no heat after April 1. But I can say that we had sun today for the first time in a while.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Ruby Dello Russo and Connor McGrath who celebrated their day May 7; Jahzarah McIntosh, Larissa Oliveira, May 8; Harrison Lazarus, May 9; Ava Trott, May 10; Leticia Deoliveria, May 11; and to Alexander Guerrero and Miles Wolff who celebrate their day May 12.

Donaroma’s is gearing up for a big weekend. It is Pink and Green weekend, it is Mother’s Day and it is also Donaroma’s 40th anniversary. The nursery and floral department have come a long way in 40 years. It was just a little store with a few flowers for bouquets and a couple of weddings. Then he expanded to house plants. I remember because I bought my first house plant there as a young bride. It was a Swedish Ivy that I actually did keep alive. I even remember when he started selling Christmas trees. Yes the business has come a long way, even the lawn care when Michael would mow lawns and put the lawn mower in the back of his truck to go to different properties.

Happy anniversary Donaroma’s. Come help all of us celebrate with the '70s theme in the garden store. Here is to another 40 years.

Summer time is coming and it is always a question of what to do with the kids for the summer while parents are working. Felix Neck has put out their summer schedule for camp. Explore forest, field, marsh, pond and seashore habitats at their 350-acre wildlife sanctuary. The camp incorporates outdoor games, nature activities, hikes, stories, crafts and more.

I looked out the kitchen window the other morning at the bird feeder. I only feed the birds this time of year because the cardinals yell at me to feed them. I know they are nesting or getting ready to and they will bring their babies to teach them to eat. I love watching the mothers. And what I think is yelling, is the mothers saying to watch her so the babies can learn.

Anyway, I looked out to see the mourning dove with her wings up in the air as in a defensive stance. When I looked closer Mr. Squirrel was on the side of the feeder trying to get in. Well, I was so impressed that the dove held her defense until the squirrel gave up and left the feeder. I could not believe the dove won out which gave me a whole new view on mourning doves.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
