Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary will celebrate the grand opening of a new year-round education and camp barn on Monday, June 12 at 5 p.m.

The barn will provide an indoor home for Felix Neck’s long-running Fern and Feather summer camp, and is ready for summer campers. Felix Neck’s vision for a nature-based preschool has also begun to take shape.

Barn funding came through donations from individuals and Island business and organizations, along with a significant grant from MVYouth. Construction took place quickly this spring under the stewardship of Autumn Construction, with the post and beam raised in two days by a group of Amish carpenters.

The next phase of the project will begin in the fall, and includes adding restrooms and utilities for a nature-based preschool for children ages three to five.
