Nobody is complaining. The sun is shining, it has been relatively cool, some days with humidity, but all in all very nice — although we do need some rain once in awhile. The ground is dry and it could rain at night and the sun could shine all day.

Happy birthday to all those who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Abner Oliveira, who celebrated July 1; Nicholas Perini, July 3; Ella Willoughby, July 5; Jonathan Polleys, Joao Simoes, July 6; Parker BenDavid, Schnyeder Oliveira, Matthew Schoenberg and Maximillian Vaughn, who all celebrate their day July 7.

Special birthday wishes to Richard (Stony) Stone who will celebrate his day July 20.

After missing their annual trip to the Island, Jimmy and Patty Santos returned on Wednesday for their three-week stay with classmate Pat Tyra on Shurtleff Way. They will be sharing lunches at The Anchors, going “scratching” with his O.B. cousin, Stuart Santos, swimming at State Beach and enjoying the P.A. Club fish fry and annual Portuguese Feast in July.

Well it is the week of Fourth of July. By the time you read this column the parade will be over, the fireworks shot off, but the visitors are still here. The Stop & Shop has been full even at 6:30 a.m. People were all saying they thought it was a good time to go but I am convinced there is really no good time to go.

While out at sea on a pelagic birding trip, Lanny McDowell, well-known Vineyard avian photographer, found his boat surrounded by a pod of playful dolphins. Amazingly, lightning struck twice and the result of these trips, Dolphin Seas, is on exhibit at the Edgartown Library through July.

Go and meet the artist at an opening reception, Saturday, July 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Edgartown Library.

On Tuesday July 11, at 6:30 p.m. the outdoor concerts will begin at the Edgartown Library. They are about an hour and they are fun to go to. Sabrina and the Groovers kick off our Tuesday concert series. Bring a blanket, friends, the kids — all are welcome to enjoy Sabrina’s groovy vocal styling’s and her fabulous band.

I think the talk of the flower world is how this is going to be a banner year for hydrangeas. Last year we were deprived of their beauty, but they are making up for it this year. Mine are ready to burst and I can’t wait to see all the colors as I have several different varieties in my yard.

Hope you all had a happy and safe Fourth of July. If you are traveling back home this weekend please travel safe and if you are staying hope you enjoy this next week.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
