We have definitely had some great weather. We finally got a much needed rain. So who can complain?

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Ashley Brasefield, who celebrated her day July 8; Emily Gilley, Erin Gilley and Thais Pereira, July 9; Amy Maeda, Cameron Stanton, July 10; John Moreira, July 11; Madeline Chronister, Anthony Smith, July 13; and to Hugo Burrows and Katelyn Tankersley who celebrate their day July 14.

The Fourth of July could not have been any better. The weather was perfect, there were lots of people, the parade was long and very fun and the sky was perfectly clear for the fireworks. I think everyone was very happy.

A number of citizens have organized a thank you party for departing hospital CEO Joe Woodin on Saturday, July 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Grange Hall.

Please join them for a traditional Vineyard potluck gathering to thank Joe for his service to our Island community. Bring your favorite dish, dessert or something to drink.

On Friday, July 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., the annual Evening of Music on the Lagoon will take place at the residence of Jim and Pam Butterick, 359 Barnes Road, Oak Bluffs.

This year features opera, as provided by the Wendy Taucher Dance Opera Theatre Singers. Entry is by donation of any amount. Please make checks payable to Federated Church Organ Fund or Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard. There will be appetizers and wine. For more information please email Pam at antispung@aol.com.

On July 19, the Edgartown patrolmen will be holding a lobster roll drive through. They are $19 and the event is held at the Edgartown School from 4 to 7 p.m. This will be for the benefit of The Edgartown Patrolmen Association.
