On Thursday evening, the Island’s superlatives gathered for the Best of the Vineyard, an annual party hosted by the Martha’s Vineyard Magazine at Farm Neck Golf Club.

Readers of the Magazine and the Vineyard Gazette voted on 87 different categories, from Best Veterinary Service to Best Lobster Roll, whose winners were announced at the crowded event.

“Without readers of magazines, none of this would be possible,” began Paul Schneider, the Magazine’s editor and the night’s emcee, who offered his appreciation for all the Island’s businesses, and the residents who frequent them.

Only some businesses, however, could call themselves “the best.” Giordano’s in Oak Bluffs took home its 13th Best Pizza award, while CB Stark and Granary Gallery both took home their 23rd BOV’s for Best Jeweler and Best Art Gallery, respectively. In the words of Mr. Schneider, “it can be really hard to knock people off the pedestal.”

Of course, there were a few new winners. Catboat Charters, based out of Edgartown, won Best Sailing Charter for the first time, while the appropriately-named D. Best Construction was a new winner in the Best Contractor or Builder category. The Best Dentist category had the night’s most exciting finish, ending in a tie between Richard McNulty of Amity Dental Studio and Hélène Schaeffer of Island Dentistry.

“We should get a special prize for that!” said one of Island Dentistry’s employees.

After the awards were announced, most hit the dance floor. The unofficial recipient of Best Moves was none other than Ryan Peterson, a current contestant on this season’s The Bachelorette, and brother of Kurt Peterson, who runs Catboat Charters. Mr. Peterson’s “sprinkler” turned back the clock for all in attendance, keeping the tunes bumping long past dark.
