The song goes “those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer.” Lazy? Not this time on the Island. Crazy? Yes, always this time of year. Hazy? Only during the weather like we experienced this week. Yes, it was very hot and the beaches were full. But the sun was shining and everyone was happy.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Jordan Souza and Emma Waltersdorf who celebrated their day June 30; Abner Oliveira, July 1; Maria DeFreitas, July 2; Robert Manning, Chase Panico, Tayshaun Parris, and Nicholas Perini, July 3; Samuel Pinto, Ella Willoughby, July 5; and to JJ Polleys and Joao Simoes who celebrate their day Friday, July 6.

Special wishes go out to Kolton Coyne, who is the son of Matt and Karen (Rogers) Coyne, who will turn two on July 10. He has special time with grandparents Dennis Rogers and Cupcake Grammy Sandra Alestra. CC Grammy spent some great time at the beach with the boys Kolton and his brother Maverick. So happy birthday Kolton and here is to many more.

My British son Scott is here visiting for the summer. Scott first came here two years ago and worked at the Candy Bazaar and he grew on me then. We had a great summer and I missed him when he left. Then he came for a two-week visit last year, and now he is here for the summer again. He is great to be around and is fast friends with my friends but he also has friends that worked with him two years ago. He is also very comfortable here as I am always yelling at him for having toothpaste spray all over the bathroom and not being able to see through the dots on the mirror. Men!

The landscapers were all starting to breathe a sigh of relief as the Fourth approached. All the homeowners are arriving or have arrived and their gardens are all planted and well-groomed. It is so fun to watch the creativity of each landscaper and their choice of flowers and colors. Many of their clients have preferences but each landscaper knows them.

I hope you all had a good Fourth, had some down time and were able to keep cool. I write this column on Monday and the Island is full and there is no room on the beaches. Driving is somewhat of a nightmare depending on when you are out and about. The Stop & Shop is a nightmare but on the up side we get to see friends we have made over the years. Many people depend on those who are here to enjoy the Island so let’s look on the bright side. We are all here and maybe we will make a new friend or make someone’s day.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
