What beautiful weather we have been having. After getting rid of the humidity, we are enjoying nice, sunny, dry air. Yes, it was chilly in the morning, but the days warmed nicely so we could enjoy the outside.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Schnyeder Oliveira and Maximilian Vaughn who celebrated July 7; Ashley Brasefield, July 8; Emily Gilley, Erin Gilley, Thomas Mullen II, and Thais Pereira, July 9; Amy Maeda, Phillip Pruciano, and Cameron Stanton, July 10; and to John Moreira who celebrated his day July 11.

As has been the case for the past 31 years, the Colonial Navy was in my yard for the day on the Fourth of July. We were all recalling the past years and this was probably one of the hottest. I cannot remember any other time the men did not wear their coats in the parade or for their concert. It was still a great time for us all. The concert was great – they prepared great food and the company is always nice.

Then we all watched as the parade came together. I love when the trucks drive in and then get decorated in the parking lot. It never ceases to amaze me how Camp Jabberwocky arrives in different cars with piles of props and pulls off the most amazing show. They are always so awesome.

For parents with young children looking for something to do on Saturday mornings in July, Friends of Sengekontacket sponsors Saturdays on Senge. Each Saturday in July, beginning July 14, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. the organization conducts a nature excursion on the pond led by a Felix Neck Wildlife naturalist. Topics in the past have included mollusks, birds and shells. Children ages four and up are encouraged to attend with the only requirement that a parent is with them. There is no charge for the excursion. If interested, plan to be at Little Bridge in Oak Bluffs at 9:50 a.m.

To me, this is the second half of the summer. The Fourth is over and now people can settle and enjoy the summer. The yards are done, the decks are set for entertainment or just relaxing and welcoming guests. Whatever the second half of your summer consists of, I hope you can enjoy it and get some down time.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
