Each week the folks at Cinema Circus show a series of short films on Wednesday evening at the Chilmark Community center. The films begin at 6 p.m. but the circus gets underway at 5 p.m. An advanced screening of the films was arranged with a young cineaste. This week’s reviewer is Brea Borella.
How Shammies Got Well
This movie has mostly characters made of crafty stuff, like pipe cleaners, straws, socks and buttons. They have silly names like Socky and Mittens, and they have no noses. My favorite character was this cat. The cat was a real cat, not a crafty cat. He was in charge of these crafty people, the Shammies.
This story had good music with words like, “Candy is the best medicine.” The Shammies also drank laughter tea to help them feel better.
Pocket Man
One of the men in this movie was blind, and one of the men in this movie was about an inch big. The little man cut a straw and he made a musical instrument. The big man liked his music. The little man left the box that he lived in and moved into the man’s pocket. And they became good friends and made each other very happy.
In the beginning, this movie had great music. It seemed like it would just be about the little man. I was glad when he found a friend. There wasn’t any talking in the whole movie.
Two Balloons
The lemurs in the movie were nice and they were trying to find each other. The beginning was very mysterious. This story has a scary storm. A weathervane showed us the storm was coming so we knew. And we were prepared.
There was no talking and the music was great! This was my favorite movie of the three.
