The Martha’s Vineyard Jazz and Blues Summerfest kicked off on Thursday, August 30 with a performance by Jazzmeia Horn at the Old Whaling Church, and continues through Sunday, Sept. 2.

The festival began in 2008 and has returned the Island each summer since then. The performances this weekend take place at both the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown and Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs. All shows begin at 6:30 p.m.

On Friday, the all-women jazz and blues supergroup hits the Old Whaling Church stage, featuring Lakecia Benjamin, Miki Hayama, Charissa Rouse, Mimi Jones, Kersten Stevens and Shirazette Tinnin. Showtime is at

Saturday is Grammy-nominated Alyson Williams at Union Chapel, and the festival concludes on Sunday evening with Maysa, a three-time Grammy nominee and former backup singer to Stevie Wonder.
