A 43-year-old West Tisbury man was sentenced to four years probation after he was convicted by a district court jury on child pornography charges late last month.

Benoit Baldwin, who was charged with possessing digital files containing child pornography, was sentenced to four years probation and a $65 monthly probation fee following a Dec. 20 jury trial in Edgartown district court.

The case dates to September 2016. According to the police report filed in court, the charge resulted from an investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Computer Crimes Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Mr. Baldwin was arraigned in October 2016.

Under the terms of probation conditions, Mr. Baldwin is banned from using any online chatroom or online communication service other than email, from unsupervised direct or indirect contact with children under the age of 18, must submit to random, unannounced searches of his computer or electronic media device by probation agents, and must register as a sex offender in Massachusetts.
