Love will be in the air at Pathways Arts in Chilmark with a pair of musical evenings this week on the theme of “romantic nostalgia.”

The fun begins Saturday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. with Pop Friction: Shades of Love, when an ensemble of Island vocalists and musicians perform retro pop classics from groups like The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Queen. The program is a sequel to last year’s True Romance jazz concert that organizer Laura Walton said was standing-room only.

“It’s becoming an annual event, which is really neat,” she said. “The really special thing about this is it’s a group of musicians that typically don’t work together that often. It’s a nice spread of music, but it’s all love themed in one way.

More Vineyard voices will join in for performances on Valentine’s Day starting at 7 p.m., and guests will have the opportunity to sing for their valentine.

Both events are free to the public and are held in the Chilmark Tavern. Many more Pathways programs are planned for the winter to celebrate the organization’s 10th anniversary off-season.

“Pathways’ vision is to keep the arts running year around on the Vineyard,” said Ms. Walton. “I think both programs really show that collaborative community arts spirit on the Island.”
