I can’t keep up with the weather. One day it is beautiful and warm and the next day is cold with a wind chill of some ridiculous number. I think even the birds are a little confused. One day I have a feeder full, the next day not one except for the squirrel who is very happy to have the feeder all to itself.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Liam Decker who celebrated his day Feb. 9; Damon Reed, Feb. 10; Franchesca Carlos and Maksim Pachico, Feb. 11; Kayleigh Boyd, Feb. 12; and to Phillip Oliveira who celebrated his day Feb. 13.

I took a mini vacation with my family to North Conway, N.H My niece had a condo rented and her youngest daughter could not go at the last minute so I was the lucky replacement. We drove up on Wednesday and stayed til Saturday. Even though it is only three hours away you somehow forget how quaint and beautiful New England is. If you love the city that’s great but the country side is great. Driving through the little towns with the country stores and the church steeples showing throughout the scenery you can imagine how it was living back in time. I don’t ski. I spend more time on the ground looking up. The day my niece and nephew went over me on the ski lift and laughed so hard I knew it was time to quit. But the weather was so erratic, one day 60 degrees and melting snow and the next morning it was 19 when we woke up and wind chill 21 degrees below zero, so there was no skiing for anyone.

On Sunday, the women of the family took the whole back row of the Boston Opera House when we went to see Beautiful. For those of you who don’t know, it is the story of Carole King. I smiled through the play as it took me back to my teenage days when I played the Tapestry album morning noon and night. I think my parents were about to lose their minds over it. It was either that or James Taylor’s Fire and Rain album. I still have the albums but I honestly think there is nothing left of the tracks. But if you get a chance to see it go it was definitely worth it.

Felix Neck Preschool, Fern and Feather, is having an open house Saturday Feb. 16 from 10 to 11 a.m. Tour the classroom and check out the facility based on early education and meet the staff and have your questions answered.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
