We got some snow. It was here for the morning, then it rained and warmed up, now it is freezing. Everything is crunchy now outside, and worse than that the doors on the cars will be frozen.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Laila Branca, who celebrated her day Feb. 16; Matheus Lauriano and Ana Mendes, who celebrated Feb. 17; Olivia Coyle and Caio Souza, Feb. 19, and to Brooklyn Petersen who celebrated her day Feb. 21.

I was thinking this afternoon about the million dollar question we get asked in the summer: “What do you do in the winter here?” My answer is always whatever you want to do. You can be very busy or you can sort of hibernate away.

I have been watching parents on Facebook posting pictures of their kids at swim meets. Many parents just came back from Lowell where their daughters, who are members of Rise, performed at a competition, where they did very well. There are hockey parents who are on the boat on weekends taking kids to games. Even people without kids are back and forth on the Island doing errands and stocking up.

The ones at home are doing projects they can’t get finished in the summer. Catch up on house projects, paint or even just catching up on reading.

Then you have the men like Albert Fischer and Phil Levesque who went out and did some digging for some little necks and steamers. Now that affected me more as everyone knows that the best tasting clams are dug now and this is when they taste the best. But good for them that they went out in the cold and dug those little devils. Then there is Ken Bettencourt who I think is working on being Bobby Flay or Emeril as he has been posting the best meals made from his own kitchen and catches in the wild. I have been watching Lindsey Mercier and her family camping, yes camping in Maine. They are with friends and watching the camp going up and all the equipment etc., I can’t wait to talk to her next week and find out more. I will keep you posted. The Federated Church will honor Black History Month by having as a guest speaker, Dr. Walter Collier, D.P.A., following the Feb. 24 Sunday service. Dr. Collier is a longtime Island resident whose recent book, Why Racism Persists: An Uncomfortable Truth, (2017), will be the basis of his presentation.

Following the program, all are welcome to join their free community lasagna luncheon, which is served in the Parish House from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
