We have had a lot of rain and wind, we have sun and warm weather upon us, but one thing we still have is pollen. It has been very high this season and a lot of people are feeling it. It will be nice to find that we all don’t have yellow cars, and have to have a ton of Kleenex on hand. But if that is all we have to complain about we are doing good.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Evelyn Lavigne, Arielle De Assis, Aiden Ryan and James LeBlond who all celebrated May 31; Filipe Filho, Catherine Burke, June 1; and to Lown Shaw and Layla Moore, who celebrated June 4.
Special birthday wishes go out to John Merrow, who will celebrate his day in a few weeks. John will be turning 84 and he will once again attempt to bike his age, which he has done for the past 14 years. He bikes around 30 miles and then home for breakfast, and then off to bike the flattest places possible.
He is hoping that this year his friends and others will make a tax-deductible contribution of some variant of $84 ($8.40, $84, $840 and up!) to the Island Housing Trust, an essential organization that provides affordable housing to the families who keep our Island running. So, anyone who wants to join him for part of the ride can text him at 646-373-3034, and he will let you know when and where.
Nature is happening all around us. There are baby bunnies everywhere. I have some that live under my deck and I think under the shed. They are out nibbling in the lawn and I noticed that the points of my hostas are missing. Yes, I have a dog, but she thinks they are friends and plays with them.
You can hear the osprey above, with their distinctive sounds fishing for their families. It always amazes me how high they fly and yet can still spot their prey easily.
The catbirds are swooping throughout the nursery, happy that there are strawberries on the hanging baskets, and you can set the time to the crows coming in for water out of the birdbaths. They even leave us gifts in the birdbaths. Yes, they are bones, but they are proud of them.
Coming home on Beach Road we had to slow down as a deer was crossing the street, coming from the beach and going over to the pond. So, keep your eyes open to nature, you never know what you will see.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
