The weather was the main event this week. The wind, the waves and the pouring rain certainly put a hold on a lot of events. No boats and delayed planes were nail biters for many wedding parties being held on the weekend. But rumor has it most of them made it on time, some with no time between getting off the boat and the ceremony. Congratulations to all those couples; they will sure have a lot of memories to tell for a long time.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Charlotte Knapp, who celebrated Oct. 12; Taj Barbosa, Oct. 14; Reese McCracken and Hevelyn Santos, Oct. 15; and to Arthur Avansini who celebrated Oct. 17.
I was happy to have cousins Sonny and Cindy Laurent for a few short days. They drove up from their home in Louisiana, and are staying with Cindy’s brother and sister in law, Kenny and Michelle in Somerset, but they always make it back to their other home here. Even though they have been in Louisiana for 24 years, there are still a lot of ties here for them. They visited with Martha at Al’s Package Store where Sonny worked for many years. They visited friends and they went and visited all the places they miss, like Aquinnah, Menemsha and just seeing the ocean. We ate at their favorite places so they could get some seafood, especially scallops. Their visit is always to short but I am glad they got so much in.
Young adult game night returned to the library and has been a popular program from the very start. Here’s your night to get all the gaming fun without the digital daze that comes with video games. They will have classics as well as some great new games. And they provide snacks — gamers need to eat, too. Game night is Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
