Martha’s Vineyard magazine won two honorable mentions this week at Folio magazine’s 2019 Eddie and Ozzie Awards ceremony in New York.

The annual magazine-industry competition drew entries from thousands of consumer, business and regional publications from across the country.

Martha’s Vineyard magazine was honored for its August 2018 issue, featuring a cover story about kids playing pirates, a profile of the actress Diana Dozier and an article on the plight of the right whales. The winner in the category was Adirondack Life.

The story about whales, “Twilight of the Rights,” by Sara Brown, former news editor of the Vineyard Gazette, also won an honorable mention for best single article in a city or regional magazine. Baltimore Magazine had the winning article.

Paul Schneider, editor of the magazine, praised Ms. Brown for her “stellar reporting and writing,” adding, “The best single issue award is really a testament to everyone who contributes to the magazine — the writers and photographers and the design, production and sales teams.”

The awards competition, more than 25 years old, is among the industry’s most prestigious.
