We will certainly take the sun we have been having but I wish the temperature would cooperate. One day we are in shorts and tank tops and the next we are in jeans and sweaters. Now that it is June we should see warmer weather.
Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Finlee Callen, Evelyn Lavigne and Aiden Ryan, who all celebrated May 31; Isabella Silva, June 1; Kyle Levy, June 2; and to Deion Estrella who celebrated his day June 3.
Gordon and Ann Tyra were quietly celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary at home last Wednesday when they were suddenly surprised at 5 p.m. in their driveway by a group of well-wishers invited by Gordon’s sister Pat Tyra. Gathering at social distancing with Pat were cousins Sara Piazza, Norma Norton Rogers and husband Edson with their granddaughter, neighbors Jane and Peter Walshe, Edgartown classmate Wayne Royal and wife Peggy, and former neighbor classmate of Pat’s Tommy Fisher.
With everyone staying home there are going to be many gardens to harvest. People are planting vegetables and herbs like they are going out of style. Flower gardens are going to be beautiful and colorful. I hope we can walk around and see all the gardens.
The Lilies of the Valley and lilacs are going by now and the irises are starting to bloom. I love to look for all the different colors. Now, of course, we are dealing with the pollen. We woke up Sunday morning to find all the cars and tables had turned yellow overnight. Those of us with allergies knew before looking outside the pollen had burst.
The League of Women Voters of Martha’s Vineyard will sponsor a candidate discussion via Zoom in collaboration with MVTV prior to the local election this year. The Edgartown discussion will take place on Saturday, June 6 at 3 p.m. The public will be able to view this discussion during a live broadcast on MVTV, channel 15, and it will also be available on demand at mvtv.org until the June 18 election.
Flag Day is in two weeks. I hope we can all put a flag out to keep our spirits up. With all the sad things that are going on right now it would be nice to show we still stand strong.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
