At the Vineyard’s annual town elections this month, incumbent selectmen face challenges in Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, Tisbury and West Tisbury, while Chilmark voters will choose whether or not to spend extra tax dollars for repairs at the town school. Many larger spending initiatives are being put on hold this year, or being postponed to the fall.

The Martha’s Vineyard League of Women Voters is hosting online candidate forums on MVTV for every town where there is a contest; schedules appear below. Candidate forums will also be available for streaming on the MVTV website after they take place.

A new state law extends absentee voting privileges to anyone who is affected by Covid-19, including anyone who wishes to avoid the polls for fear of infection. Absentee ballots are available at town clerk offices.

Early voting is also permitted. Applications are also available from town clerks and at sec.state.ma.us/ele/eleev/evidx.htm.

All mail-in ballots must be received at the town hall by the close of polls on election day, according to the secretary of state’s website. Postmarks are not sufficient.

Chilmark holds its election first next week on June 10; polls are open from noon to 6 p.m. at the Chilmark Community Center. Along with a slate of uncontested incumbents for three-year terms, including selectman Warren Doty, the ballot has no candidates at all for the one-year terms of fence viewer and surveyor of wood, lumber and bark.

The single ballot measure, Question 1, asks voters to exempt $169,136 from the Proposition 2 1/2 state tax cap for the purpose of funding replacement windows at the Chilmark School in the coming fiscal year.

The Chilmark ballot is posted online.

Edgartown and Oak Bluffs both hold their annual town elections on June 18; with polls open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Edgartown polling will be at the town hall, while Oak Bluffs polling will be at the town library.

Sample ballots are posted online for Edgartown and for Oak Bluffs.

In Edgartown, longtime incumbent selectman Margaret Serpa is seeking an eighth term and will face two challengers: Joseph L. Monteiro, a chef and owner of the 19 Raw oyster bar, and Juliet Mulinare, a former chief procurement officer for the town who currently works for Edgartown’s dredge department.

Two candidates, Grey Barn cheesemaker Joseph Alstat and Oak Bluffs health agent Meegan Lancaster, are vying for a single seat on the Edgartown board of health.

In the only other contest on the ballot, planning board incumbent Fred Mascolo is seeking a third term and being challenged by Robert Strayton of Chappaquiddick.

The League forum with Edgartown candidates will be held on MVTV on June 6 at 3 p.m. on cable channel 15.

In Oak Bluffs, incumbent selectmen Michael Santoro and Brian Packish will face challengers Ryan Ruley and Richard Day Weiss. Mr. Ruley is an Edgartown police officer and Mr. Weiss is a member of the town finance and advisory committee who is also seeking re-election to that body.

Finance and advisory committee member Robert Gaffey is running for re-election as well and there are two other candidates for the three open seats: attorney Sherry Countryman and retiree Kerry Mark Leonard.

Incumbent Oak Bluffs water commissioner Raymond Moreis Jr., faces a challenge from Maura J. McGroarty, who also is running unopposed for a one-year term on the finance and advisory committee.

The Oak Bluffs candidates forum will be held on MVTV June 10 at 6:30 p.m. on cable channel 15 and on demand afterward.

Tisbury voters go to the polls June 23, from noon to 8 p.m. at the Emergency Services Facility on Spring street. Incumbent selectman Melinda Loberg, who is seeking a third three-year term, is facing a challenge from two candidates: Larry Gomez, a former one-term selectman in 2015 who did not seek reelection, and Melanie Englert, a caretaker who is a newcomer to town politics.

Tisbury voters will also be asked to decide on a Proposition 2 1/2 override for municipal wastewater improvement bonds.

Tisbury’s sample ballot is online.

The candidate forum on MVTV is June 8 at 7 p.m.

West Tisbury holds its election June 25 at the town’s public safety building, with shorter-than-usual hours: from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., town clerk Tara Whiting-Wells said. Incumbent selectman Kent Healy is seeking a second three-year term, and facing a challenge from Michael Bellissimo, who represents West Tisbury on the Dukes County Regional Housing Authority.
