Anticipating record heat and humidity, the towns of West Tisbury, Chilmark and Aquinnah are opening a single cooling shelter at the West Tisbury Library today and tomorrow, according to an announcement from Chilmark town administrator Jen Rand.

The shelter is open until 6 p.m. Monday and from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, as a last resort for the exclusive use of those who have pre-existing conditions and need relief from the weather.  Face masks are mandatory, seating will be assigned and there is limited spacing. The library will not be available for on-site business while the shelter is open, but curbside pick-up will be unaffected.
