The weather still remains cool at night and warm enough in the day to make people happy. We do need rain, though.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Kensington Sees, Sasha Tolay Currier, Isaac Trance and Elijah Youmans, Sept. 12; Colin Hurley, Sept. 16; Ana Amaro, Adeline Metters, Sept. 17; and to Xeandre Miller and Cole Reed who celebrated Sept. 18.

Fall is coming. The traffic is calming down, there are still bike riders but not as many, and even the Stop & Shop is a bit better. The new shows on TV are coming back and the days are getting shorter. I think it is the best time of the year on the Island.

With fall comes the Derby. Even that has changed a bit. There is not a striped bass category this year. But the bluefish, albacore and bonito are in. There will be fishing widows, and lots of lost sleep and hopefully lots of people weighing in fish.

I was getting a little nostalgic as I was thinking about the kids going back to school. My mom and I would get on the Island Queen and sail away to Falmouth and we would walk to Bradlees with what I call her “Old Lady Cart.” I was always so embarrassed while we were rolling it up the road. We would stop at Woolworth’s first so my mom could get her sewing notions and yarn. I loved looking at the parakeets. Then off to Bradlees for new skirts and sweaters and, of course, shoes. We would grab some lunch and check around the rest of the mall. Then we would call for a cab for a ride back to the boat. The cart was full and I was so glad to have it by the end of the day so we did not have to carry all those bags. It was a fun day and we were exhausted but we always came home with things we really wanted, plus we got to spend quality time together.

Please call if you have some news you would like to share, a birthday, someone’s anniversary, a baby to welcome. It is hard as we don’t go to as many places and mingle with people so please feel free to call and leave a message or email me. I would love to hear from you and who knows your news may put a smile on someone’s face.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
