The Democratic Council of Martha’s Vineyard, also known as the MV Dems, has announced its elected officers for 2021–23.

Steve Power is the group's new chair with Nicola Blake elected vice-chair. Susanna J. Sturgis was elected secretary, Carla Cooper is the new treasurer and Holly MacKenzie the immediate past president.

All five officers are longtime Vineyarders who have been active in Democratic and other community activities in recent years, according to the announcement.

The council supports Democratic candidates in local, state and national elections, informs voters about Democratic positions on issues and promotes public participation and government accountability, regardless of party affiliation by facilitating voter communication.

Council meetings are open to all and take place at 9:30 a.m. on the second Saturday of every month, currently on Zoom. Recent speakers have included U.S. Senator Ed Markey, U.S. Representative Bill Keating, former U.S. Representative Joe Kennedy, State Senator Julian Cyr and State Representative Dylan Fernandes, as well as organizers for the Ranked-Choice Voting initiative and activists for transparency in the state legislature, according to the announcement.
