At this time, our Island animal shelter remains open for official business and by appointment only. Unfortunately, there were no adoptions to report this week but we do have a new resident. Blue (who is actually black) is a long-haired silver point, male cat, approximately six to eight years of age. This boy is more dog than cat — he follows you around, adores belly rubs and loves to be brushed. He also his large, luminous eyes. He’s on the chubby side, which we’re working on, so will need to remain on a diet in his new home.

Also still available for adoption are Summer, the stunning Ragdoll mix cat, Peeps, the black baby bunny, and two female Guinea Pigs, Miss T and Bonnie. All the pets are very sweet and friendly, all would make excellent companions.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit.

If anyone is in need of cat food, dog food, or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours.

The shelter phone number is 508-627-8662. Hours are: Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.
