At this time, our Island animal shelter remains open for official business and by appointment only.

Thank you so much to this week’s adopters. Black bunny Peeps is in store for a lifetime of love. And Blue, the black, long-haired, male cat who thinks he’s a dog, was adopted by someone originally looking for a dog. It was love at first sight. It’s almost summertime and Summer is wondering when it will be her time. Summer is a very sweet and gentle bobtailed Ragdoll mix with light blue eyes in a calico face and a bicolor body. She’s about nine years old, asks for belly rubs, and is still quite playful and affectionate. Summer does have a respiratory condition so her adoption fee will be waived.

We also have two new male Guinea Pigs, along with the two female Guinea Pigs — Miss T and Bonnie. All the pets are very sweet and friendly, all would make excellent companions.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit. If anyone is in need of cat food, dog food, or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours.

The shelter phone number is 508-627-8662.

Hours are: Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.
