The town of Aquinnah will receive nearly $50,000 from the state to complete a walking path that connects the shops at the cliffs with the lighthouse overlook.

The state grant was announced Monday as part of $6.5 million that will go to Massachusetts towns for its shared streets and spaces program.

To date the program has handed out $33 million to 183 cities and towns, Lieut. Gov. Karen Polito said in a press release.

This marks the third round of funding for the program.

In Aquinnah the funds will help bring to the finish line the long-planned overlook park around the historic Gay Head Light.
