This week, we have the most wonderful Guinea Pigs anyone could ever want to snuggle. There are two pairs who are ready to find a new family in a forever home. You are cordially invited to come by the shelter and feed them some lettuce or maybe a piece of carrot. Our shelter’s oldest resident, Faith, doesn’t let the fact that she’s deaf and blind get in her way. She enjoys a comfortable space with love and light and a warm dry bed that elicits loud purrs as she settles in for frequent naps. Faith has a wonderful appetite which is quite evident by more purrs with every bite of her breakfast. Even though we figure her to be at least 20 years old, Faith is still a friendly, cuddly, litter box savvy companion.

For those of us who like to roam the paths of the Island’s wonderful forests and sanctuaries, here is your reminder that hunting season is upon us. It is important to keep informed about the different seasons and regulations that might intersect your walking times and spaces. It is the time to wear brightly colored clothing and make a little extra noise out there.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit. Also, if anyone is in need of cat food, dog food, or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours.

The shelter phone number is 508-627-8662. Hours are: Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Thursday; 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
